Implant replacement
Breast implant replacement, also known as breast implant revision, is a surgical procedure performed to replace or remove existing breast implants. There are several reasons why women choose to undergo implant replacement. These include:
Age of the implants:
Breast implants are not meant to last forever. Many manufacturers recommend checking or replacing the implants every 10 to 15 years, even if they are not causing any problems.
Aesthetic changes
Over time, personal preferences may change. Women may choose to have an implant change to change the size or shape of their breasts.
Complications
In some cases, complications such as capsular fibrosis (a hardening of the tissue around the implant), rupture or leakage of the implant may occur. These problems often require replacement of the implants.
Body changes
Pregnancy, weight changes or natural aging can affect the appearance of the breasts. An implant replacement can help restore the desired look.
The implant replacement process usually begins with a detailed consultation with one of our qualified plastic surgeons. This will discuss the reasons for the replacement, the desired results and the various options. The surgeon will also explain the risks and possible complications of the procedure. The procedure itself is usually performed under general anesthesia and can take between one and two hours, depending on the complexity. The surgeon removes the old implants and inserts new ones or, if necessary, makes additional corrections to achieve the desired result.
After the procedure, a recovery period is required during which the patient should follow care and aftercare instructions. Most women can return to their normal activities after a few weeks, although final results are often not visible for several months. Overall, breast implant replacement can be a positive change for women who are unhappy with their current implants or have health concerns. As with any surgical procedure, it is important to be well informed and have realistic expectations.
